September signals the welcome arrival of spring. There’s spring cleaning and there’s the thought of ‘will I still fit my last season’s swimmers?’ Yes it’s time to peel off the winter layers and face the reality if winter hasn’t been kind to you.
It’s also time for lighter food in the diet and that exercise program you put off because it was too cold, now comes to the surface. Yes it’s time to shape up for summer.
But what activity will you choose? Who will you exercise with? How much time can you devote to the pursuit of fitness?
Here’s just the tonic that enables you to combine a workout with your family and friends; to challenge your workmates and to assist with much needed funds for research into gynaecological cancer.
September is GO step for Gynae month which involves just 10,000 steps a day to assist you on the path to fitness and well being.
I’m a cancer survivor and an ambassador for ANZGOG (Australian New Zealand Gynae Oncology Group) which is a clinical trials group striving for better outcomes through research and offering hope to women who suffer this disease. I know through my cancer trip that exercise was one area that I was in charge of and that by accepting challenges such as the 10,000 steps, I knew how my body was performing,
If you accept the GO step for Gynae challenge you will be empowered to take control of your fitness level and accept responsibility for how you feel. Just Google ‘GO step for Gynae’, follow the prompts, sign up and start moving. You will receive a pedometer to help with the count. Even though fitbits and smart phone apps are available the pedometer is there by your side all day and becomes a talking point if you share the challenge with others.
Remember to start slowly and build up to a comfortable pace. By the steps aren’t just reached through dedicated walking. The pedometer will take into account incidental steps around the office, around the house and the supermarket allowing you to control the time you spend working out.
Get the family signed up, turn off the electronics and discover an activity you can share together. Spring will never feel so good and in a double whammy your contribution will contribute to saving a life. Walk your way to health.
